Who we are

Eight teachers, one MBA programme, and a decision to keep going

Fully supported by Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), a group of teachers in Herat accessed higher education through an online MBA in Education programme with Assam Don Bosco University in 2016.

In 2018 they ran voluntary training workshops for principals of female public high schools in Herat. Seeing the real need to continue, they established the Management Studies Organization on 27 March 2019.

About Us

Management Studies Organization

A non-government, non-political and non-profit organization registered with the Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan, No. 4693, on 27 March 2019.

Background

Fully supported by Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), a group of 10 teachers in Herat-Afghanistan accessed to higher education through online/distance programs. This group were registered with the Assam Don Bosco University for an MBA in Education program in November 2016. Among them, 5 female and 3 male teachers could successfully complete the program. This was an in-service opportunity to upgrade their knowledge and skills beside all their family, social and career responsibilities. JRS provided this academic gift for them which opened windows to new horizons in their lives.

Looking a way to share what these MBA students were acquiring, they were motivated and supported by JRS to conduct training-workshops voluntarily for the principals of female-public high schools of Herat Province in 2018. Observing the real need for continuation of such programs and having active discussion-sessions during the training-workshops, they made a decision which led the group to establish a non-government, non-political and non-profit organization.

Establishment

The Management Studies Organization (MSO) was established in March 27th, 2019; to structure and pave the way to fulfill all plans and activities these volunteers dreamed to contribute for the development of Afghanistan. The MSO was registered in the Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan with the registration number 4693 in March 27, 2019.

Goals: The overall goal is to provide humanitarian and volunteer services, and to actively contribute in the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan. The tacit purposes are: 1- To support and strengthen good governance, 2- To participate in the realization of democracy and, 3- To contribute and take efforts to ensure social justice in the country.

Field of Activities: The basic priority of the Organization is to plan and fulfill activities in the field of Leadership and Management. To achieve the organization’s goals and objectives, the programs and activities will be planned, implemented and supported through the Research, Empowerment, and Advocacy.

Who we are

Secretary of Public Awareness in HFM (Herat Female Managers) Network

Student of Ph.D. in Educational Evaluation and Research, University of South Carolina, Columbia, USA

Mrs. Dawood was born in Herat, Afghanistan. She is pursuing her Ph.D. in Educational Evaluation and Research at The University of South Carolina and working as Graduate Assistant at the Child Development Research Center. As a civil activist and leader Mrs. Dawood is one of the founders of MSO in Herat, Afghanistan. She graduated from the Educational University of Herat from the Department of Mathematics in 2010; she has taught for over ten years in Tajrobawi Girls’ High School. (2020-2021) Ruhina Dawood attained her Master’s degree in Business Administration from Don Bosco University, Guwahati, India. (2017-2019). She has a diploma from the English Program for Internationals from the University of South Carolina and a diploma in the Russian language from Saint Petersburg Harmony School, Russia. Mrs. Dawood has excellent leadership, management, problem solving, and teaching skills in elementary, high school, graduate and undergraduate education.

Mrs. Roma Omid is a civil activist and women rights defender in Herat Province, Afghanistan. She is founder and member of Management Studies Organization (MSO) since its establishment in March-2019. she is member of Advisory board of Herat Female Managers’ Network (HFMN). She was team leader and facilitator USAID-Tetra Tech-promote WLD project.

  • Implementing the decisions of the General Assembly and the Board of Directors of the organization.
  • Facilitate the meetings of the Board of Directors and General Assembly of the organization · Leadership and management of the Executive Board of the organization ·
  • Approve the work plans of the deputy executive and general manager of administration and finance of the organization & division duties for them and other employees ·
  • The responsibility of setting up, monotheism and providing work reports to all aspects of the Internal or External insertion of the organization, including the General Assembly or Donors, in sectoral agencies and so on (Serious focus on holding donors and submitting reports for the first and second half of each year to the Department and the Ministry of Economic).
  • Supervising and take care of the operational affairs of the organization in its project and structural sections. Signing official correspondence, concluding contracts and memoranda, protocols and proper representation of the organization in various national and international programs related to the scope of the organization.

  • Supervising the team and monitoring their activities by using different tools (Weekly Meeting, Using Online Tracker) ·

Mrs. Zhala Hakkak is a civil activist and women rights defender in Herat Province, Afghanistan. Zhala Hakkak is the founder and Deputy Director of Management Studies Organization (MSO) since its establishment in March-2019. She is Member of advisory board in Herat Female Managers’ Network (HFMN), she was the official member of Supporting Organization for Afghanistan Civil Society (SOACS) As a member of HFM network Mrs. Zhala Hakkak take active part in different meetings, holding workshops for members of HFM network and raised voice for advocacy for the women rights in removing gender discrimination. She also tried developing the network by cooperation of advisory board. Mrs. Zhala Hakkak holding master degree in Business and Education Administration from Assam Don Bosco University, India. She also has received a number of short training in a variety of issues related to human-rights, child protection, leadership, teaching methodology. She successfully completed her bachelor English literature in education faculty of Herat University which was after her high-school studies in Mahjuba Herawi high school in Herat Afghanistan. She also achieved one-year diploma on leadership from Institute of leadership development (ILD) Mrs. Zhala Hakkak started her professional career as a Teacher in Tawhid Private in 2010 and in 2013 after finishing the university and passing the teachers public exam she become an English teacher in Espina Ade High School Herat- Afghanistan. During her service, she taught computer and English subjects, and after proving her competence, she was appointed as the head of the English department. Also, she has been managed programs in Management Studies Organization as one of the founders and deputy Director since 2019.

Miss Jamila Ahrari was born and is living in Herat, Afghanistan. She was graduated from Literature and Humanity Faculty of Herat University, English Department in 2011 and attained her Master degree in Business Administration from Assam Don Bosco University, Guwahati, India in 2019. She has received many diploma from

different programs: two diploma from Swedish Institute SI Leader Lab Program and Remote Team Accelerator program, and many other in the field of leadership, capacity building, TTP. Jamila Ahrari started her professional career as translator in Darultarjoma-e-Elya in 2012. She has experience of nine years teaching English language.

As one of the founder and a member of (MSO), Jamila Ahrari worked in the

position of responsible and coordinator of Herat Female Managers’ Network (HFM Network) from 2019 – 2022 and is now the Admin and Finance Deputy of MSO. Finally, as a civil activist and educated person, Jamila Ahrari took active part at different advocacies for women wright, received two round International School Award as coordinator of Malika-e-Jalali High school in British Council, and had active role in managing and coordinating different workshops and training programs.

Mrs. Anila Barekzai is a civil activist and women rights defender in Herat Province, Afghanistan. Anila Barekzai is the founder and member of Management Studies Organization (MSO) since its establishment in March-2019. she is secretary of research Committee of Herat Female Managers’ Network (HFMN). She was voluntarily project Coordinator of Herat Female Managers Network in 2019.

As a member of HFM network Mrs. Anila Barekzai take active part in different meetings, holding workshops for members of HFM network and raised voice for advocacy for the women rights in removing gender discrimination. She also played an efficient roll as secretary of research committee.

Mrs. Anila Barekzai holding Master degree in Business Administration from Assam Don Bosco University, India. she also has received a number of short training in a variety of issues related to human-rights, child protection, leadership, teaching methodology. she successfully completed her bachelor English literature in education faculty of Herat University which was after her high-school studies in Guharshad high school in Herat- Afghanistan.

Mrs. Anila Barekzai started her professional career as an English teacher in different courses in Herat- Afghanistan.

Finally, as a facilitator in CBMS project Mrs. Anila Barekzai played an important role in managing and gathering together school ‘s council to monitor their schools and started to solve the schools’ problems councils.

Mr. Asadullah Qanbari is a civil activist and human rights defender in Herat Province, Afghanistan. He has more than 5 years’ experiences of work with civil society in different positions. Asadullah Qanbari is the founder and member of Management Studies Organization (MSO) since its establishment in March-2019. He is the member of Advocacy Committee of Herat Female Managers’ Network (HFMN). He is the project Coordinator of Reintegration of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons by Improving Education, Employment Opportunities and Peace Education supported by BMZ.

He has worked as Education Coordinator for Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) and Supporting Organization for Afghanistan Civil Society (SOACS) to provide quality education for children and specially girls in remoted districts in Herat. As he passed a 10-months Course on Social Case Management by University of Utah of USA, he is working as social changing agent to advocacy for vulnerable people who especially girls and women who needs help and guidance.

As a member of Herat Civil Society Institution Network (HCSIN) is taking active part to strengthen democracy and combating corruption in local level. He also played an efficient role as human defender to give awareness and guidance for those in need.

As member of civil society took part in different meetings and press conference to rise our voice for advocacy of human rights and removing corruption in government.

Mr. Asadullah Qanbari holding Master degree in Business Administration from Assam Don Bosco University, India. He also has received a number of short training in a variety of issues related to peace building and peace education, human-rights, child protection, formal education, leadership, and public administration. Before his master studies he successfully completed his bachelor in Education in Herat University which was after his high-school studies in Mashhad- Iran.

Mr. Asadullah Qanbari started his professional career as a Principal of Public High School for more than 13 years in Herat- Afghanistan from 2002- 2015. He also worked as English profession Trainer for Female High School English Educators in Herat Education Department implemented by JRS and financially support by US Embassy in Kabul from 2016-2018.

Finally, as a civil activist and educated person worked as members of village council to manage our village social affairs and to implement developing project in our village and city.

HFM Network

Herat Female Managers Network

Founded by MSO in July 2019 with the support of JRS, so women managers in Herat can meet, raise their voices and advocate for one another.

Herat Female Managers Network (HFM Network) is title of the 6-month project which was implemented by MSO in Herat province, Afghanistan in 2019. The target group or the direct beneficiaries of establishing the HFM Network through this project were; at least 100 women who are the managers and administrators working in public, private, and non-government institutions or sectors in Heart Province, Afghanistan. The overall activities of this project were focused on three arias which are as follows:

  • Capacity-building Committee: Where all and every member could be admitted voluntarily.
  • Advocacy Committee: With at least 30 members, among which there can be the civil activists, men or women, who are not the members of the Organization or the Network.
  • Awareness-raising Committee: With at least 20 volunteer members.
  • And Research Committee in which more than 30 members ore voluntarily working.

Herat Female Managers’ Network project started in July 2019 by MSO with the financial support of JRS to provide these female managers an opportunity to get together, raise their voices, and advocate for one another. During these six months of the project, the foundation of the HFM network was formed, policies and strategies followed, plans and programs were practiced and developed. Based on the achievements and according to the demand of network members, MSO prepares a proposal to continue the project in 2020. The project continued seven more months, but after that the team of MSO are working voluntarily.

Outcome:

Consequently; during three years of Network life, more than 150 woman managers were joined to the Network and work eagerly in committees. Also 13 Leadership and Management workshops were conducted for managers, headmasters, and civil activists, more than 20 advocacies were done by Advocacy Committee to solve different problems, most of the Network members were invited to different medias to be introduce as active women of the society, and many researches were done about different subjects by Research committee of the Network. Furthermore, especial days such as: International Woman Day, International Human Rights Day, International Teacher Day and were celebrated.

Board of Directors

The board of directors of HFM Network is consists of 12 persons. There are four committees in Network: Capacity Building Committee, Advocacy Committee, Public Awareness Committee, and Research Committee, and each committee lead by a head, a deputy director, and a sectary. The Board of Directors conducts quarterly meetings(every three months).

Advisory Board

The Advisory Board of HFM Network is consists of 10 members: Monesa Hasanzada the Social Deputy of the Province, Mrs. Sakina Hosaini the Herat Civil Councilor, Mrs. Naheed Rahmati the head of Economiy of Herat, Mrs. Anisa Sarwari Head of Women’s Affairs of Herat, Mr. Ruhullah Azhad the head of Herat Education Directorate, Mr. Anwarulhaq Ahmadi the Head of Capacity Building Department of Herat Province, Mr. Hamid Reza Zaher the civil activist and MSM member, and Mrs. Zhala Hakkak the Deputy Director of MSO.

The Head of Advisory Board is Mrs. Anisa Sarwari and its meeting hold quarterly.

The Advisory Board Meeting:

On November 4th, advisory board‘s meeting was held with the presence of its members in Mrs. Hasanzadeh’s office. Mrs. Monisa Hassanzadeh the Social Deputy of the Province, Mrs. Sakina Hosaini the Herat Civil Councilor, Mr. Ahmadi the Head of Capacity Building Department of Herat Province, Mr. Ruhullah Azhad the head of Herat Education Directorate, Mrs. Naheed Rahmati the head of Economiy of Herat, Mrs. Wahida Azizi the Herat Gender Expert, Miss. Sohaila Sabri the Representative of Female Affairs Directorate, Mr. Mahdi Rasekh the JRS Representative, Mr. Hamid Reza Zaher the Civil Activist and member of MSO, Mrs. Gulsom Saddiqi the Civil Activist, Mrs. Zhala Hakkak the Deputy Director of MSO and Miss Jamila Ahrari the Coordinator of HFM Network were the members of the meeting. After discussions about the HFM Network and the situation of female managers in Herat Province, Mrs. Golsum Saddiqi was chosen as the chief of advisory board.

Committees

Capacity Building Committee

The Capacity Building Committee of HFM Network is consisted for the purpose of building up the working and professional capacity of the female managers who are interested to raise their capacities in the field of management and leadership to have more skilled female administrators in future who compete for top management position by implementing capacity building programs that are based on researches and need assessments.

This committee is consist of about 40 members. Mrs. Faeqa Alizada the Herat Mostofi (state accountant) is the chairwoman of this committee, Mrs. Fazila Hamidi the principal of a governmental school is the deputy director and Miss Jamila Ahrari the member of MSO is secretary of the committee.

Committee’s Activities:

During the one year Network activities, this committee planned and conduct six round management and leadership workshops with the support of MSO. More than 120 managers from different organs got benefit of the workshops and admired the committee’s activities.

Advocacy Committee

The of HFM Network is established to encourage active and continues participation of Women-rights and civil activists and women themselves in advocacy programs to overcome any and all challenges in front of women at management and to reflect the women demands in all legal affairs and documents which facilitates better work-life situation for them and to resolve the challenges and obstacles of the women in management, which are due to gender discrimination, through evidence-based advocacy in the district, provincial and national level.

Advocacy Committee with at least 35 members, among which there can be the civil activists, lead with a head ( Miss Basira Taheri), a deputy director(Miss Nafisa Saljoqi) and a secretary( Miss Shakofa Zaher)

Public Awareness Committee

This committee is established to increase public awareness about the gender equity and women rights via conducting sessions and media campaign. Also via this committee the Network member’s achievements share with the people by Medias and social networks.

In Public Awareness Committee Mrs. Fatema Farahi is the head of committee, Mrs. Fawzia Qanaat is the deputy director and Mrs.Ruhina Dawood is the secretary of this committee. There are at least 20 members in the committee.

  • Make an agreement with local Medias to broadcast the managers’ achievements and programs.
  • Every week a member of Network have an interview in Eslah TV about the women situations.

  1. تجلیل از روز جهانی حقوق بشر

    از یازدهم دیسمبر روز جهانی حقوق بشر طی محفلی در سالن همایش ریاست اطلاعات و فرهنگ با حضور نمایندگان امارت اسلامی و دفتر یوناما تجلیل به عمل آمد. هدف از برگزاری این برنامه رساندن صدای بانوان به گوش مسولین و جامعه جهانی جهت حل مشکلات اقتصادی و اجتماعی موجود در کشور بود.

    محفل با قراآت آیات قرآن عظیم الشان آغاز گردید. سپس بانو روما امید رییس اجرایی موسسه مطالعات مدیریتی ضمن بیان پیام خوش آمد گویی خویش جزییاتی در مورد موسسه مطالعات مدیریتی و شبکه مدیران زن و همچنان هدف از برگزاری برنامه ارایه نمود. سپس بانو فرشته یعقوبی، بانو زینب سروری عضو کمیته دادخواهی شبکه و بانو مسعوده کروخی عضو پیشین پارلمان هرکدام طی سخنان خویش به بیان دو مشکل عمده موجود در کشور که همانا وضعیت نامعلوم تعلیم و تربیه و اجازه کار به خانم ها، و بحران اقتصادی است پرداختند. این بانوان ضمن سخنرانی های خویش از امارت اسلامی خواستار دادن حق تعلیم و حصیل به دختران و حق کار به خانم ها شدند. و همچنان از جامعه جهانی و سازمانهای حقوق بشری خواهان رسیدگی به بحران اقتصادی که اخیرا مردم را سخت متاثر ساخته است گردیدند. سپس مولانا نعیم الحق حقانی رییس اطلاعات و فرهنگ هرات به ایراد سخن پرداخت و در مورد جایگاه والای زن در اسلام صحبت نمود. وی همچنان به حاضرین وعده سپرد تا صدای شان را به گوش مسولین در مرکز رسانده تا در آینده نزدیک مشکلات موجود حل گردد.

    محفل با ذکر دعاییه ای توسط بانو سوسن بهبود زاده اختتام یافت.

    قابل ذکر است که در جهار ماه اخیر حکومت امارت اسلامی این اولین همایش بانوان جهت دادخواهی برای حل مشکلات در هرات بود که به ابتکار شبکه مدیران زن هرات برگزار گردید.

  2. Gender Workshop

    Gender refers to the different ways in which sexual differences between people appear differently in different times and places, societies, cultures, and across people’s lifetimes. Gender is an important consideration in development. Regarding the problem of gender inequality in Afghanistan, the MSO decided to hold a workshop for women who are communicating with other people daily.

    The workshop was held on October 24, 2020, for two hours for 14 female managers who are members of the HFM Network. This program was presented by Miss Farishta Yaqubi the civil activist who was asked by MSO Members to have a volunteer presentation for HFM Network members.

  3. Press Conference

    On Thursday May 14, 2020 the HFM Network held a press conference with cooperate of SOACS, to condemn the Al-Manak incidents in the Daschte Barchi of Kabul, Nangarhar and Laghman. At the conference, several civil society activists raised their voices in protest against these crimes and called for justice and civil punishment. Some of the articles of the declaration are as follows:

    1-Attacks on civilian institutions such as hospitals and public places and targeting civilians, including infants, children and women, are against all human and Islamic standards, and are in stark contrast to human and Islamic beliefs.

    2- Herat Civil Society, while condemning this terrorist act and sympathizing with the victims of this tragic incident, calls for the public identification and trial of the perpetrators of these crimes in the country.

    3-According to the Herat Civil Society believe, one of the main tasks of the government is to ensure the security of the citizens.

    4- The government must prioritize the security of its citizens, ensure the security of the people, and take serious action against terrorists.

    5- We call on the Government of Afghanistan to have a proper definition of friend and foe, and to identify and communicate with individuals, currents and countries that have deployed terrorist groups, and to refer to the United Nations Security Council to let the world understand more and better the oppression of the Afghan people

  4. Fifth Round Management & Leadership Workshop

    By 7th January-14th January 2020, 28 administrators (8 males and 20 females) raised their skills in Management and Leadership Workshop. In that workshop, 28 administrators have participated. Mr. Thomas James Vas was the master trainer and Mr. Farhad Sharifi and Mr. Mahdi Rasekh were translators who have facilitated the proses of presentation. On the first day of the workshop Child Protection was the subject of the presentation. Proposal Writing was another subject which was presented in the second and third days of the workshop which was admired by the audience. During the fourth and fifth days of the program, the School Auditwas presented by presenters. This subject really helped the participants to compare between Afghanistan’s schools and education administrations in other countries, especially in India. Participants also understood the similarities and differences between teaching methods, auditing methods, logistic standards, and methods of raising the quality of educational administrators.

  5. Fourth Round Management & Leadership Workshop

    According to the requests of Advocacy and Research Committees’ members, on November 30, 2019, Herat Female Managers Network held the fourth round Management and Leadership Workshop for 32 female managers who were the members of those committees. The first presenter was Mr. Wasi Saidi the head of WASA Organization. He had a presentation by the title of “Ways and Skills of Advocacy” Then Mrs. Sakina Hosaini a Civil Councilor of Herat Province started speaking. In order to motivate the women, she narrated the story of her life and shared the experiences of her success with them. Her speeches were impressionable for audiences. The second section of the workshop started with a presentation by the title of “Scientific skills of Research” by Mr. Hamed Wahidi the University Teacher of Sociology faculty. The program finished at 3:00 P.M.

  6. Third Round Management & Leadership Workshop

    To greet from 25th of November, The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Herat Female Managers’ Network hold a workshop about “Prohibition of Violence against Women and Children”, “The Law of Access to Information” and “Kinds of Violence at Girls Schools” On November 21, 2019. This program was hold for 29 female principals of girls’ schools from city and Enjil district. The workshop presenters were Miss. Farishta Yaqubi, Civil Activist, and Mr. Hamid Reza Zaher the Civil Activist and the founder of SOACS.

  7. Second Round Management & Leadership Workshop

    On November 13, 2019 Herat Female Managers Network held the second round Management and Leadership Workshop for 41 female headmasters from local schools of Enjil District. Anila Barakzai, a member of MSO stated a presentation by the title of “The Roles and Duties of Headmasters at School”. Then, the second presenter Mrs. Zhala Hakkak the deputy director of MSO had a presentation about “Self-confidence”. In the afternoon, Mrs. Roma Omid the executive director of MSO had a presentation about “Skills of Leadership”.

    During the program Mrs. Faeqa Alizada the Herat Mostofi (state accountant) who is the head of Capacity Building Committee of HFM Network came and declared useful and motivational words for audience.

  8. First Advisory Board Meeting

    On November 4th, the first meeting of advisory board‘s was held with the presence of members in Mrs. Hassanzadeh office. The members: Mrs Monisa Hasanzada the Deputy Director of Social Affairs of Herat Province, Mrs. Sakina Hosaini the Provincial Council Representative, Mr Noorulhaq Ahmadi the head of Provincial Capacity Building and other members were discussed about the goal and objectives of Network and Mrs. Golsum Saddiqi was chosen as the chief of advisory board by members.

  9. First Round Management & Leadership Workshop

    The first round Management and Leadership Workshop was held for 25 female managers who were invited from different local schools of city and Injil, Gozara and Karukh districts. Mr. Homayoon Popal a member of MSO was the first presenter of program who started his presentation by the title of “Critical Thinking”. Then Mss. Hajar Moradi another member of MSO presented a presentation by the title of “Crisis Management”. At 1:30 Pm Mr. Ruhollah Azhad the Herat Head of Education who voluntarily requested to have a presentation about “Women in Leadership” started to present

  10. Opening Ceremony of the HFM Network

    MSO (Management Studies Organization) implemented an opening ceremony for the starting point of the HFM Network. Members of MSO conducted this opening program on September 7, 2019, at Estaqlal Hotel to introduce the Network, its goal and objectives, and the program which is going to be implemented during the six months of the program for managers who are members of the network. About 120 people were invited to this ceremony. The participants of the ceremony were the female managers and government local authorities including directors of education, TTC, HR Department, Gender Officer of Herat Governor Officer and etc.

Herat Female Managers Network

Herat Female Managers Network (HFM Network) is title of the 6-month project which was implemented by MSO in Herat province, Afghanistan in 2019. The target group or the direct beneficiaries of establishing the HFM Network through this project were; at least 100 women who are the managers and administrators working in public, private, and non-government institutions or sectors in Heart Province, Afghanistan. The overall activities of this project were focused on three arias which are as follows:

  • Capacity-building Committee: Where all and every member could be admitted voluntarily.
  • Advocacy Committee: With at least 30 members, among which there can be the civil activists, men or women, who are not the members of the Organization or the Network.
  • Awareness-raising Committee: With at least 20 volunteer members.
  • And Research Committee in which more than 30 members ore voluntarily working.

Herat Female Managers’ Network project started in July 2019 by MSO with the financial support of JRS to provide these female managers an opportunity to get together, raise their voices, and advocate for one another. During these six months of the project, the foundation of the HFM network was formed, policies and strategies followed, plans and programs were practiced and developed. Based on the achievements and according to the demand of network members, MSO prepares a proposal to continue the project in 2020. The project continued seven more months, but after that the team of MSO are working voluntarily.

Outcome:

Consequently; during three years of Network life, more than 150 woman managers were joined to the Network and work eagerly in committees. Also 13 Leadership and Management workshops were conducted for managers, headmasters, and civil activists, more than 20 advocacies were done by Advocacy Committee to solve different problems, most of the Network members were invited to different medias to be introduce as active women of the society, and many researches were done about different subjects by Research committee of the Network. Furthermore, especial days such as: International Woman Day, International Human Rights Day, International Teacher Day and were celebrated.

Accompanying in Difficult Time — Round 1

On 16 March 2020 that ten cases of COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Herat province, for controlling the crises situation, the government quarantined the Herat province and as a result, most of the people faced with the bad economic situation. The MSO decided to conduct a program by the name of the “Accompanying in Difficult Time” to prepare and distribute food packages to 344 needy families in Herat province who have already been surveyed by members and colleagues of the Institute of MSO so that these needy families in the current crisis be supported.

On June 25, 2020, the first food Caravan went to Zanda Jan District with food packages which were consisted of: rice, oil, sugar, and tomato paste and distributed for 60 families with the presence of Mr. Mahdi Rasikh and Mr. Farhad Sharifi the representatives of JRS, Mr. Habibullah Joyanda the representative of work and social affairs, Mr. Atayee mayor of Zanda Jan, and members of MSO. These packages were conveyed and distributed in Zanda Jan in three phases: on June 25, 2020, on July 4, 2020, and on July 5, 2020.

The second caravan of food packages transferred to Karokh District on June 29, 2020. These food packages were distributed to 40 needy families who were surveyed before.

On July 30, 2020 food packages distributed to the people Injil District and 82 poor families who were surveyed before received the packages.

12 families from Gozara District and 150 families from Herat city who had received cards were asked to come to the MSO office and receive their packages.

The second round distributing of food packages and medicine packages started on August 13, 2020. The medicine package which includes 23 different medicines were handed out to the head of the COVID-19 Program and director of the public health dept. in the presence of Mr. Rasekh, JRS Project Director, Mrs. Roma Omid, MSO Executive Director. Dr. Hassin, the head of the COVID-19 Program thanked JRS and MSO for their support at the time of COVID-19 Lockdown.

The second step was the distribution of food packages to surveyed and registered families. According to the daily plan, the distribution committee called about 50 families to come to the head office of MSO to receive their food ration packages and it took 3 weeks to complete the distribution. Among the beneficiaries list, there are many families who are struggling in finding the basic needs of their lives and they are the most suffered families of the Covid-19 Quarantine Period.

BMZ II Project

Education is a ray of light in the darkness and It certainly is a hope for a good life. Education is a basic right of every Human on this Planet. Having education in an area helps people think, feel, and behave in a way that contributes to their success, and improves not only their personal satisfaction but also their community. In addition, education develops human personality, thoughts, dealing with others and prepares people for life experiences. It makes people have a special status in their own society and everywhere they live in. One of the objectives of Management Studies Organization (MSO) is to have active participation in providing opportunities for getting better education for everyone. So regarding this, MSO is implementing promoting the reintegration of refugees and internally displaced people in their regions of origin in Afghanistan by improving education, employment opportunities and peace education project (BMZ II) under the financial assistance and technical guidance of Action Aid Afghanistan (AAA) in districts of Karokh and Koshke Robat Sangi. The BMZ II project is conducted to create opportunities for balanced and gender-free access to high quality education and social peace education for different sections of society, especially for refugees and internally displaced families. This project is conducting preparation for Konkur, Remedial / Science and Society Peace Reconciliation classes in both male and female section from 10 to 12 grade. The number of direct beneficiaries are 515 students (290 girls and 225 boys participating in 7 classes in Karokh and 3 classes in Koshke Rabat Sangi.). It is important to mention that all of 46 students from 2021 classes which also participated in 2022 classes for two months passed Konkur exam successfully.

The Second Volunteer Activity

Distributing Health Kits:

On Wednesday, April 15, 2020, The MSO cooperated with JRS in advance conducted a street campaign and Awareness Campaign about COVID-19 and distributed Health kits to the students of Angell, Guzara, Koshka robat Sangi, and Karokh districts schools. These Kits consisted of sops, masks, brochures, and calendars.

The First Volunteer Activity

Conducting Management and Leadership Workshop:

Fully supported by Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), a group of 10 teachers in Herat-Afghanistan accessed higher education through online/distance programs. This group was registered with the Assam Don Bosco University for an MBA in Education program in November 2016. Among them, 5 female and 3 male teachers could successfully complete the program. This was an in-service opportunity to upgrade their knowledge and skills besides all their family, social, and career responsibilities. JRS provided this academic gift for them which opened windows to new horizons in their lives.

Looking away to share what these MBA students were acquiring, they were motivated and supported by JRS to conduct training-workshops voluntarily for the principals of female-public high schools of Herat Province in 2018. Observing the real need for continuation of such programs and having active discussion-sessions during the training-workshops, they made a decision that led the group to establish a non-government, non-political, and non-profit organization.

The workshop was conducted in four sessions. The first and second sessions were started on November 17, 2018, and the third and fourth sessions were held on December 29, 2018, by the title of Leadership and management training workshop; the participants of the workshop were 30 persons who were the girls’ schools principles from Gozara and Injil districts of Herat province.

The objective of the workshop was Women empowerment in leadership and management that was held for two months for four days, each month two days.
